MeatballWiki collects the minimum personal information needed to run a community wiki. This page explains what we collect, why, and what we do not do with it.
What We Collect
If You Read Without Logging In
We log standard web server data: your IP address, the pages you visit, and your browser's user-agent string. We use this for security monitoring and spam prevention. We do not sell or share it. Logs are rotated periodically.
If You Edit Without Logging In
Anonymous edits record your IP address and a reverse-DNS hostname lookup (e.g. cpe-1-2-3-4.bigpond.net.au) in the page history. This is visible to all readers in the page history and recent changes. It is the same practice UseModWiki has used since MeatballWiki was founded. If you want attribution without your IP being visible, create an account.
If You Create an Account
We store your username, email address, and a hashed password (if you registered with a password). Your email is used only to:
- Verify your account
- Send a password reset link if you request one
- Notify you of changes to pages you subscribe to (if you enable this)
We do not send newsletters, marketing, or unsolicited email.
If You Log In With GitHub, Google, or LinkedIn
We receive your name and email address from the provider and store them in your account record. We do not receive your password from the provider — we never see it. We store only what is needed to identify you and display your name. We do not store OAuth tokens beyond the immediate login session.
What We Do Not Collect
- Payment information (we have none)
- Location beyond IP address
- Browsing history outside meatballwiki.org
- Anything from third-party tracking scripts (we have none)
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. It contains a session identifier, not personal data. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Your Edits Are Public
Everything you write on MeatballWiki is published under the MeatballWikiCopyright and is permanently public. Edit history — including your username or IP address — is visible to all readers. Think before you write.
Your Rights
You may request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing SunirShah or editing SunirShah's talk page. We will remove your email address and anonymise your account. Your edits will remain attributed to your username unless you request vanishment (see RightToVanish).
Contact
The site is operated by SunirShah. Questions about privacy can be directed to him via his wiki page or by emailing sunir@sunir.org.
Changes
If we change this policy materially, we will note it on RecentChanges. The edit history of this page is the authoritative record of changes.
