ProblemSpotlight

The human mind is designed to spot things out of the ordinary. This skews our perspective on the probability of such events: we find so-called coincidences marvellous when in fact they are mathematically unremarkable.

It's easy to focus on the problems in a community, but it's usually a small minority who are causing problems.

Therefore, avoid casting a spotlight on the problem. On wikis, remember that for every anonymous vandal who goes on a page deletion rampage, there are dozens or even hundreds of beneficient passers-by. Instead, focus on the good folks - those committed to BarnRaising.

I'm sure I've read stuff on this theme before, but I don't know of a page devoted to it...

It was on RadicalInclusiveness. My comment to focus on the top-end users instead of the bottom-end, where at the time I had no good definition of top/bottom, but now I do: fun/unfun. This distinction is better than collaborative/uncollaborative as other communities have their own definitions of fun. -- SunirShah
